Put Teaching Ahead of Testing
Our district must lead the charge against too much testing. An over-emphasis on high-stakes standardized testing puts unhealthy stress on students and narrows curriculum. Teaching to the test will not prepare students for 21st century careers.  By focusing on teaching, not testing, we can stand out as a district by graduating well-rounded, critical and creative thinkers.

Invest in Art & Music
When I was in school, Springville was known for having great art and music programs. We must invest in these programs rather than cut them. Art and music are not “extras.” Students and schools succeed when the arts are emphasized.

Make the Budget Process More Transparent
Trust and transparency are critical to the budget making process. Voters, parents, and Board members deserve better information. We need confidence that the budget will not be significantly altered after it is approved.

Go Green
Green initiatives and sustainability measures such as composting, food production, and solar power should be explored to develop hands-on learning opportunities for students while creating long-term cost savings for the district. I will spearhead a committee of Board members, teachers, students, and area experts to advance innovative green initiatives.
Develop A Long-Term Vision
We need to think long-term and develop a plan for what we want our district to look like in 15 years – from capital projects, to how the district is configured, to what programs we want to invest in and grow. In order to achieve our vision we will need to intensify our outreach to the community and our advocacy efforts with state and federal elected officials.
Be a Part of Community Revitalization
Good schools are a key piece of our community’s revitalization. The school district must work more strategically with local organizations, businesses and local governments to create better schools and more vibrant communities.
