We envision a community where you can live, work, shop and play. We envision a healthy, family friendly community with a vibrant, dense downtown concentration of activity. We believe that local government should play a proactive role in bringing about this vision as one piece of the overall solution and we want to elect effective leaders who not only have vision but can move us closer to it. We want a forward-thinking local government that is prepared to meet the global challenges of the future.
Comprehensive Master Plan
Develop a plan that is current and utilized as a government-wide document that sets out a long-term vision for the community. Evaluate performance of key village staff against their progress in meeting goals laid out in the plan.
Vibrant Economic activity in a Dense Downtown
Create a bustling downtown through partnership, grant programs, tax abatements for rehabilitation projects, incentives which promote development downtown, encouragement of multiuse downtown buildings, encouragement of downtown “upper floors” residences, creation of an economic development coordinator position within the village, work to develop light manufacturing, development plans focused on downtown, legislation discouraging sprawl and focused on smart growth.
Vibrant Streetscape
Create pedestrian--friendly, “complete streets” with community wayfinding, better comprehensive parking plans, linkage of green spaces, development of parks, a trail system and an open space plan. Utilize grant-writing for improvements and financing. Support first floor retail space on Main Street. Educate public on codes & regulations and use equitable and consistent enforcement of code for historic properties. Develop positive initiatives for maintenance of historic properties and support for the Historic Preservation Commission. Develop village gateways.
Environmental Sustainability
Develop and implement a sustainability plan for long term viability that includes green initiatives, code overhaul, use of our municipal utility system to launch innovative energy self-sufficiency measures, support for local green initiatives such as green roofs or solar panels, protection of the water supply, local food use or other economically and environmentally beneficial practices.
Collaboration and Communication
Recognize Springville’s position as a community destination and create better government cooperation with business, civic and cultural organizations to enhance this status. Support and promote events. Develop a community wide promotion plan. Take a proactive approach. Create opportunities. Solicit feedback. Better communicate and engage the citizenry. Better cooperate with School District, Town, County and State agencies. Support better youth program funding and work with SYI to develop a model recreation system.
